SCHOOL NURSE NOTES

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing summer vacation and is ready for an exciting year at school! Here are a few reminders from the health office:

Please do not send any medicine to school with your child. Medication cannot be given without the proper forms filled out by you and your doctor.

Physical exams are required for all Kindergarten and Fourth Grade students. Physical forms will be sent home with students in October. Please make appointments as soon as possible. Physicals need to be received by March 31, 2009.

Encourage your child to wash their hands often. Good hand washing is the best way to decrease the spread of germs and illness.

Make sure your child gets the proper amount of sleep every night. Elementary children need 9-10 hours of sleep at night in order to feel good and be ready to learn at school.

Support the NRSD's Wellness Policy by encouraging healthy eating habits in your children. Help them to choose nutritious foods for meals and snacks. Also, when considering snacks/treats for parties or holidays, please remember the policy allows for only one "sugary snack" per occasion.

Visit www.nrsd.org for more information on the district's wellness policy as well as other health policies and medical forms.

Feel free to call me anytime during the year with questions/concerns you may have regarding your child's health. I hope you all have a wonderful school year.

Cindy Wilson, RN, NCSN
